!!Spoilers up to and including Simon Said behind the cuts!!
The spn_fridayfive Week 2:
1. Did you really start watching for the plot?
It all started with me reading the synopsis of the show somewhere on the net without knowing any names of the writers or cast that was to be involved. I was still mourning over The X-Files and thought this might get me my weekly scare. So, I watched the Pilot and enjoyed it very much. Quite frankly though, it was the mixture of the plot AND the hot cast that good me hooked for good.
2. If the show focused on two sisters instead of two brothers, would you still watch it?
Probably not, it would need to be really smartly done to get me hooked because I have enough of Buffy & co. for a while. Apart from the supernatural aspect, it’s the fact that the show explores brotherly love. As a girl I’m just a little more interested in following two guys struggle with their family issues and destiny.
3. In what other ways do you think the demon can be killed?
Beheading, perhaps? But then it didn’t stay materialized long enough to catch a bullet and for it wouldn’t put its head under a guillotine willingly, let’s just scratch that. Maybe it’s possible to trap it the good old Ghostbuster kind of way. I know that especially Asian lore speaks of ways of trapping spirits in wooden boxes or limestone and such.
4. How well do you think Kripke manages to balance out the scary/action/angst/humor in this series? And what do you think of how he manages to get the viewers to see things from the other perspective?
So far, I'm enjoying the show for all the above elements, so I guess the whole writing team did good. The show's veering in the direction of becoming more angst-heavy it seems. On the one hand, my fannish heart craves for that obviously but that development also takes away a lot from the horror aspect. I miss being scared shitless lately o_O
Nevertheless, I adore how they bring so much depth to the characters without really putting it into words all the time.
5. Who is your favourite guest star so far? And why?
Can I just fuse wee!Sam, Missouri and the Nerds from Hell House into one psychic, funny and tough guest star? Well, wee!Sam doesn't really require an explanation, I mean it's wee!Sam who has this
Missouri embodies this lovely mix of kick ass woman and mother figure and the Nerds are just so falsely geeky it makes me want to move in their trailer^^.
Ellen and Ash might be added to spice up the mix soon.
The spn_fridayfive Week 3:
1. What other urban legends would you like to see on the show?
I'm not picky. Everything that gives me goose bumps is fine. I'd be thrilled, though if they dabbed into something along the lines of the Mothmen, golems or haunted places and their nastily crafty poltergeists.
2. What other roles would you like to see Jensen or Jared play?
Right now, I can only picture them as the broken, angsting, snarky, kick-as bros Sam and Dean Winchester. But, since I have a thing for bad guys, I'd love to see them playing the villains in a good thriller or something. Come on guys, let's show us your dark sides!
3. The dreaded question: what do you think of Ellen, Jo, and Ash?
Ellen rocks. Tough on the outside, she is treated with respect by the other hunters. She obviously is very observant and has been reading everyone around here like an open book. In a way she's exactly that kind of person the boys need once in a while. No pretences, no lying around her and taking the events of the recent episode into account, she seems to be a lot more involved with THE demon than she’s letting on.
Jo, well, doesn't fit in the equation yet. Of the big scheme of things, that is. Let's see if they'll give her a function in the next episode and I might be able to give a more valuable opinion on her character then. Throughout Simon Said I got the impression that she knows surprisingly much about the fire and the patterns that aren't patterns anymore. (at times it seems, the writers just can’t come to an agreement which makes adjustments to the family myths necessary o_O) Anyway, this implies something I'm not sure I'd like to see turn out that way on the show.
Much love for Dr Badass. Ash is cute in this wickedly cracked up kind of way. He represents this fine line between genius and madness. I mean he likes to sip on other people's beer bottles and possesses the ability to full on macguyver a laptop into a demon-radar in about 52 hours. Yeah, I like him, he can stay.
4. How many seasons do you think this show could last?
They should end it with a loud bang when the show is at its very best. Whenever that might be I have no idea. I would hate for it to jump over the shark and be cut due to decreasing ratings. Kripke, however, mentioned he knows how the story will end. Now, I have to trust them to know when that moment arrives.
5. The Demon killed all the special children's mothers when they were six months old. Why do you think he killed Jessica? How did she 'get in the way'? Do you think the demon has killed some of other children's girlfriends/boyfriends?
For we know from Simon Said that the six months rule doesn't apply, Jessica's death makes a lot more sense in the way that she won't screw up our theory anymore. Personally, I'd go with Sam and argue that it was the idea of breaking him. Driving him over the edge and triggering whatever lies hidden underneath. And let's be honest, who knows who or what Sam would be now if Dean hadn't been at his side.
As John said, they’re all going to have to play their parts.
Also, anyone have any Sam-centered fanfic recs?! Gen, slash, Wincest is all fine as long as the fic does have a plot too and/or a fair share of characterization. Angsty and horror stuff preferred. Help out a fellow fangirl, pretty please :)
